CHI CHO OTSK ATI – HOUSE OF CHILDREN
The Quileute House of Children is located at 8 By-Yak Loop in La Push. The building houses Head Start, Child Care, Early Intervention Services, and WIC. Children who attend Head Start or Child Care receive breakfast, snacks and lunch each day.
The center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
HEAD START PROGRAM
The Quileute Head Start Program is a comprehensive program for low income children and families. The program offers early childhood classes four days a week for three to five year old children, nutrition services, family support services, transportation, health services, mental health services, and disabilities services. Native children may enter the program as they turn three throughout the school year.
One of the ways that Head Start is able to offer these services is through partnerships within the community. The Quileute Health Clinic completes our vision and hearing screening, the Dental Clinic screens all our children and provides sealants, and the Tribal School assists with our maintenance and facility needs. We work closely with the Tribal School Early Childhood Education Programs to ensure we have a coordinated system of screenings, evaluations, and parent training. Other partnerships include the Quillayute Valley School District which provides disabilities services to eligible students and the Tribal TANF and ICW Programs.
The Head Start Program is governed by the Tribal Council, Policy Council, Head Start Director and is under the Department of Human Services. These bodies work together to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. They meet regularly to approve of all policies, procedures, hiring, and curriculum.

CHILD CARE
The Quileute Child Care program is funded with a combination of CCDF (Child Care Development Funds), Child Care payments, and Tribal dollars. The child care is licensed by the Department of Early Learning (now DCYF) and is eligible for Working Connections Child Care payments.
All children ages 1 month-12 years old are able to enroll, with priority given to Tribal families and low income families. The center is licensed for 48 children. There are four classrooms – Baby, Toddler, Preschool and School-Age classrooms. All classrooms are currently open and accepting applications for enrollment.
EARLY INTERVENTION
The Early Intervention program is funded with BIE Birth to 5 funding to provide Child Find and early intervention services for Tribal children ages 0-5 who may have developmental delays or other disabilities. Free screenings are provided in partnership with Child Care or Head Start. Parents or caregivers whose infant or child does not attend the center, but have concerns about any area of development, may contact staff and request an observation or screening. The earlier intervention is provided, the better the outcome for the child!
